Where are Droplands manufactured?
Located in La Beguda Alta, about 30 minutes from Barcelona on the A2, very close to the AP7 as it passes through Martorell, we can find the DROP CAMPERS warehouse in which the design and construction of the Dropland that today we are analyzing.
But... What is a Dropland?
As for the construction, the robustness of the result is obvious seeing the treatment they receive from their creators and the opinions from veteran users in their use. Owners who have crossed the desert several times rave about it. That is why our review will focus more on the usability part of the home.
Weighing less than 750kg and with a frame suitable for any off-road vehicle, angles of attack with a set-back axle geometry and high maneuverability due to its turning angle mean that the mini-caravan can fit in wherever a car fits in and can turn without hesitation to maneuver on roads where, for whatever reason, a turn is required.
A width of less than 2 meters helps the versatility of the set.
The optimization of space makes the interior a small living room or office if the weather conditions require it, and obviously, a comfortable bedroom for two people and even for two adults and a child. Birch provides the necessary warmth and robustness required in an adventure “vehicle” where “war” and rest need to be covered with the same intensity for the equation to work.
Interior cabinets closed or without doors to facilitate access, removable tables with sliding guides, accessory exterior table and reading or ambient lights enhance the habitability of the cell. A central console governs the heating and the intensity of the lights that will be powered by a 100Ah gel battery. Its recharge will come from the connection to the car or from the optional solar panel.
The exterior and its great kitchen.
The kitchen would undoubtedly deserve an exclusive point for itself. Equipped with cabinets, tap with sink, 37l refrigerator and access to the portable cartridge kitchen (this model does not have an oil-fired ceramic hob) makes you feel at home just by opening the tailgate.
It is true that you are exposed to weather conditions but its immediate usability and without space limitations has more than compensated us. You don’t have to cook half crouched, or on your side, or worry about leaving space for others to access the interior of the vehicle.
You are simply cooking in complete comfort in the middle of nowhere and at the same time you are in the center of the camp, totally integrated into the group, participating in conversations with others.
Simply excellent.
You will have an outdoor shower faucet with its respective removable cabin, an awning, and optionally, you will have a roof tent so that another two people can sleep. The tent is heated through a tube that connects to the stationary heating.
The 360L exterior chest gives quick access to the table and chairs or the dining tent, which you can also heat with the accessory tube.
The exterior lights make it easy to set up the camp, just take out the chairs and table, open the kitchen door and enjoy.
User experience.
At the wheel of a 160hp Toyota Land Cruiser it feels light and easy to carry, in fact you look in the rearview mirror to check that it is still there. The aplomb is enormous, we confirmed it well when we encountered gusts of wind that exceeded 80km/h, we were under weather alert for this reason, the Dropland did not even move, unlike different camper vehicles that we passed along the way that were actually affected. I saw them in danger. Fact that we directly relate to the width of the axle, the center of gravity, the height equal to that of the Land Cruiser and the independent and progressive suspension. In short, to the rigidity of the whole.
The operation and distribution of everything is very intuitive and immersive, perhaps the most difficult thing was the control of the Autoterm heating, which when you use it in “heating” mode and it reaches the set temperature it does not stop working but rather reduces the power to the minimum, a fact that causes the temperature inside to continue to rise. On the other hand, if you use it in “thermostat” mode, it does stop serving at the set temperature.
For children there is practically no adaptation process, they start enjoying the Dropland from minute zero, for adults it is simply being clear that everything is going smoothly, if there is something that resists opening it is because you are not doing it right. With that clear, the only thing left to do is enjoy the adventure that you propose to suit you, being aware that you have a trailer. The Dropland will provide you with the access and comfort you need.
