What's your name, how did you meet Suzan, Jasper, Isa and Eva, how long ago?
My name is Fire Rosie!
I’m a Mercedes Benz 1113LAF from late 1990 and came factory with 4×4 and a 5,7L turbodiesel. When driving I use 12mpg or 20L/100KM.
I’m not fast and make a lot of noise, but no road is too rough and I go anywhere they want me to go, I’m a Beast!
I got my name from the oldest daughter Isa. My owners bought me in April 2020 from a dealer in Berlin. Before that time, I was a firetruck in a sleepy German village.
As a firetruck I had a pampered life; to Mercedes every year for new oil and grease, always kept warm inside hooked on power and air.
I enjoyed saving cats from trees and all, but in 2017 I retired anyway. I thought my working life was over, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was suddenly shipped to the Netherlands where I was gutted and given a new life as Overland Truck.
I hadn’t seen my owners yet as they lived in Thailand. In real life we met for first time in august the same 2020. This was really strange because I already lost the back of the fire truck and my cabin cut in half.
Are you the first truck in their lives?
Yes, I’m the first vintage truck in their lives.
Jasper did have an old BMW that he apparently enjoyed to work on and ride around in, so its not the first vintage car overall.
Suzan and Jasper got married in that car, so a love for Vintage cars was already there. I think they made a smart move going from a BMW to a Mercedes though.
The most important thing for us is that we all need to like the adventure.
Where have they taken you and where do they want to take you?
When my makeover as Overland Truck was completed, I was put on a boat and crossed the Atlantic ocean. Since arriving in Halifax, Canada we are 8 months on the road, in this time we explored Canada and America.
At this moment we are preparing to drive into Mexico! We don’t have an exact plan, but I think we will be on the road a couple of years to reach Argentina.
The most important thing for us is that we all need to like the adventure. Knowing us there will be many change of plans in the route, and who knows, maybe we’ll hang around a bit longer somewhere.
Do they plan or improvise?
They improvise everything all the time.
Plans change all the time and we go where they get invited, told of a spectacular view or site or whatever else happens on the road.
Sometimes they pretend to plan, but that usually doesn’t last long.
What hobbies, passions, neuroses... are your travel companions?
Any scare or breakdown?
Not really, I’m 30 years old but only have driven 30k kilometers!!!
I’m oldschool and built to last.
I do like an oil change and grease up regularly, but other than that I’m easy.
The house part is different though; thats not me and there always seems something to do there, usually something small to fix or hang up.
Jasper is the one who’s never scared and he steers me anywhere. Suzan will sometimes close her eyes when its too adventurous.
Please look on our Instagram to look what I mean we did some very scary roads!
Fire Rosie bids farewell by sharing a lesson learned along the way.
Don’t be scared of going without planning;
we always end up in great places meeting great people. Also, me and my brothers don’t believe in breaking down, so just keep me greased up and I wont let you down!
I may not be the quickest, biggest, strongest or newest truck, but I go anywhere and it’s the memories that make us happy!
Respect for nature, the environment and the regulations of each country
See you on the way!
